WHAT ARE "FASHION WEEKS"?
Breaking down the concept of the fashion show, fashion week has become more of a general introduction to the newest trends, catching the eye of the press and spreading the circulation of attractive images of collections through the internet.
Fashion week is a week-running fashion industry event where fashion designers and fashion houses show their latest collections on the catwalks to potential buyers across the world.
Originating from the heart of international fashion, Paris, these events influence the trends for the current and upcoming seasons. Generally, fashion weeks take place twice a year. From January to March, the Autumn-Winter collections of the coming year are presented, while from June to October the Spring-Summer collections of the following year are shown.
Although there are many notable fashion weeks around the world, only four are known as the "Big Four"; Paris, Milan, London and New York hold prestige when it comes to Haute Couture collection launches.
THE INFLUENCE OF FASHION WEEK
Fashion weeks are big business for the fashion industry. They have become a pilgrimage of sorts for fashion designers, buyers, apparel manufacturers and fashion journalists all over the world, where Fashion Houses express their creative skills and talents to promote their products.
These shows are heavily influential on style, colour, textile innovation, printing techniques and materials. Fashion weeks introduce us to the latest trends for current and upcoming seasons. These shows are a way to celebrate variety and to discover new talent and brand names.
