Every generation arrives into a world it did not design, then gets criticised for not preserving it perfectly. The pattern is familiar. A younger group begins to behave differently, question inherited expectations or reject certain markers of success, and the reaction is immediate: they are difficult, unrealistic, distracted, demanding or unwilling to work in the “right” way. But these narratives rarely tell us much about the generation itself. More often, they reveal the discomfort of systems that are struggling to adapt.
