The tie trend is moving beyond traditional tailoring as designers turn a familiar menswear code into construction, proportion and unexpected womenswear detail.
For decades, the tie had one of the most fixed roles in the wardrobe. It belonged at the collar, carried a particular set of masculine and professional associations, and operated within a fairly rigid system of shirt, jacket and suit. Even when fashion borrowed it, the reference remained immediately legible: work, authority, uniform, establishment.
